Scagglethorpe Methodist Church<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The worshipping community at Scagglethorpe is relatively small numerically, but diverse in that we are drawn from a number of neighbouring villages – Scagglethorpe, Settrington, Rillington & Yeddingham. We gather for traditional Methodist worship twice a month, with hymns, readings, a message from our preacher and times of prayer. We meet at 10:30am and the services last around an hour, usually followed by some refreshments. We welcome all to join us, just turn up and we’ll welcome you on the door and show you the ropes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Unique Building in Methodism<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You’ll find our building, in the heart of the village. It is relatively modern, but unique among Methodist churches, in that it contains an eclectic mix of furnishings, such as a carved wooden clock and Old Organ from a church in Chicago, plaques and a few pews from the Old Chapel, a royal coat of arms and other treasures. Our interior was decorated by a local artist Susan Maude from Rillington in something akin to an ornate Baroque\/Folk Art style, which draws on symbolism and meaning found in scripture. The angel outside, in the front garden celebrates the first Mayor of Wakefield, who is buried in the old chapel graveyard, and was gifted to us, by the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The church is in the heart of this small village being up the slight rise from Bull Piece Lane just past its junction with Charlton Place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
